Our Mission

Homer First UMC embraces the United Methodist belief that all churches should practice "Open Hearts, Open Doors, Open Minds".

Our mission is to be fully devoted to Jesus by opening our hearts to those who worship with us, and all in our community and in our world.  Our vision is to Grow, Respond, Be a Neighborhood.

We welcome you to join us to explore the opportunities that lie before us to reach out to the world in love.

Our Pastor: Rev. Robert (Rob) Dean (he/him)

Rev. Robert (Rob) Dean—who prefers to be called Pastor Rob—is an Ordained Elder in the Upper New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. He has served in ministry as a youth leader since 2000 and as a pastor since 2008. He was ordained in 2012 after graduating from Roberts Wesleyan College (now Roberts Wesleyan University) in 2004 and Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in 2010.

He is currently earning his certification in "Spiritual Formation" through the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry of the United Methodist Church. As a part of that journey, he has become a member of the Academy Forum of the Academy for Spiritual Formation through Upper Room Ministries and is working through the Tending The Soul Spiritual Formation training through the Upper New York Annual Conference.

His interests include classical forms of spirituality within the Christian traditions and engaging in emerging practices of spiritual formation in a global context. Through that process, he is working towards becoming bilingual in Spanish and regularly engages in Bible study and prayer in both English and Spanish.

Outside of "church life," Pastor Rob lifts weights and enjoys science fiction in paper, film, and audio formats. He also dabbles in both poetry and musicality with hand drums, acoustic bass, and acoustic guitar.

Pastor Rob is married to Kimberly Dean, the Licensed Local Pastor of the Freeville United Methodist Church and Coordinating Pastor for the Varna United Methodist Church. Pastor Rob's children live south of Buffalo and include Austin, Jay, and Hope from his first marriage. He also does his best to be a loving stepfather to Pastor Kim's children from her first marriage: Joe and his spouse Lizzie, Abby, and Alex.

In this 27th year of our church hosting Red Cross blood drives, the count is at 131 drives. The most recent blood drive took place on April 11th. Our goal was 40 units and overall we collected 41!
The following volunteers continue to support our Red Cross blood drives. Rich Tice set up the church dining room. John Dey and Steve Mosier unloaded the van at 8:00 Saturday morning.  Steve Mosier and Donna Farkus helped with check in and the canteen. John and Steve reloaded the van at the close of the drive and Rich saw to it that the dining room was put back in order.
THANK YOU! These blood drives couldn't happen without you.

Walk-ins are accepted but those who make appointments are given first priority. To make an appointment, schedule online at RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS
